The union representing employees at the Globe and Mail has ratified a new three-year contract that will provide a $1,500 mental-health benefit.
Howard Law, director for the media sector at Unifor, says the mental-health benefit was increased from $850 and won’t be subject to the overall paramedical cap of $1,500.

The agreement also includes a two per cent increase to all wage scales and all salaries up to $150,000, retroactive to July 1, 2021, plus a one per cent wage increase for all employees on July 1, 2022 and on July 1, 2023. It also eliminates a previous clawback on a maternity leave top-up and secures a $100 allowance for home-office expenses.
The news outlet also agreed to discuss pay gaps identified by the union and make efforts to achieve fair and equal pay for women, people of colour and other equity-seeking groups within the bargaining unit, according to a press release.
