As the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board’s head of international leaves the organization for a global private equity firm, Geoffrey Rubin will assume oversight for international operations on an interim basis.
After nearly 14 years with the CPPIB, Alain Carrier, senior managing director and head of international, is joining Bregal Investments Inc. as global chief executive officer.

“[Carrier] was a critical driver of our international strategy — which continues to be a priority for the fund — working across the enterprise to build a strong local presence and relationships everywhere we operate,” said John Graham, president and CEO of the CPPIB, in a press release. “A valued member of the senior management team, a friend, mentor and respected colleague to many, [Carrier] will be missed and we wish him all the best as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.”
Alongside his current role as senior managing director and chief investment strategist, Rubin will step into the role on an interim basis. The CPPIB is conducting a thorough assessment of potential longer-term leadership candidates in accordance with its ongoing succession process, according to the release.
