Interviewed by Benefits Canada at the 2012 Healthy Outcomes Conference, Dr. Chih-Ho Hong from Medical Inc. said that biologics have allowed his patients to return to work faster, and they are more productive when they are there.
“[A biologic drug] has treated their disease to a better ability of previous treatments. Not only does it allow them to go back to work, it frees up time for the spouse, family or caregiver as well,” he explains. “In recent years, we have seen access change with respect to private payers.”
He adds that in the future, doctors, patients and employers will have to work collaboratively to find ways for people to access them. If not, patients won’t be able to get the treatment they need, and that will impact employers.
