The Ontario Municipal Employees’ Retirement System is appointing Michael Hill as executive vice-president and global head of infrastructure, effective Sept. 5.
Hill, who has more than 30 years of experience in global investments, joins the OMERS from the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board where he was head of sustainable energies for the Americas. “Michael has an impressive track record, extensive transaction background and significant experience in business strategy and sustainable energy,” said Ralph Berg, chief investment officer at the OMERS, in a press release. “Infrastructure plays a core role in our global investment strategy and I look forward to working with Michael and the entire team as we continue to focus on the pension promise to our members.”
In other OMERS news, the pension plan’s venture capital arm is pulling out of Europe amid a drop in European technology investments, according to a report by Bloomberg News.
An OMERS spokesperson quoted in the report confirmed the plans, noting OMERS Ventures will focus on investments in North America. In 2019, OMERS Ventures established a US$332 million fund to invest in European start-ups.
