More than three quarters of Canadians support increasing Canada Pension Plan (CPP) benefits, according to the Future of Pensions poll, which surveyed 2,020 people across Canada.

Also, 80% support increasing federal payments to senior citizens, and about 50% believe the government is moving too slowly in reforming Canada’s pension system.

Additional survey findings include:
• 4 in 10 respondents are not saving for retirement because they can’t afford to;
• 1 in four Canadians is confident they will be able to save enough to live comfortably in retirement;
• 3 in 10 people believe they won’t have enough to live comfortably in retirement;
• 70% would prefer a defined benefit plan over a defined contribution plan.
