People Watch: On the move in April

Here’s a review of the people on the move this month.

BlackRock is making changes to its senior management team. Rob Goldstein, currently global head of institutional client business and BlackRock Solutions, is set to become chief operating officer in June. He will replace Charlie Hallac, who will become co-president of the firm. Mark McCombe, currently the chair of BlackRock Asia Pacific, will become head of institutional client business and chair of BlackRock Alternative Investors.

Tom Clancy has joined Mackenzie Investments in the role of senior vice-president, U.S. business development. He has more than 15 years of industry experience, including roles in sales, consultant relations and global trading/research.

Leo de Bever, CEO of Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo), has announced his intention to retire from his role. He will continue as CEO while the organization searches for his replacement.

Mercer has appointed Doug Johnson, partner, as its Canadian M&A leader. Prior to taking over this role, he ran one of Mercer’s specialist Canadian retirement businesses that included leadership of numerous significant corporate transactions.

Denise Kehler is now the new president and CEO of Manitoba’s Teachers’ Retirement Allowances Fund. She was previously the director, investment services, at the Public Employees Benefit Agency of Saskatchewan.

Athas Kouvaras has joined Russell Investments Canada Ltd. as a regional director. He has 12 years of investment industry experience, with a background in manager due diligence, marketing and sales management.

Stephanie Kremer has joined Centurion Apartment Real Estate Investment Trust as vice-president, business development and institutional sales. She previously worked as an independent consultant with several Canadian hedge fund managers on developing their institutional sales and marketing.

Shane Kuros has joined CIBC Mellon as vice-president, head of sales. He has more than 25 years of sales, marketing and product development experience in financial services.

CIBC president and CEO Gerry McCaughey (pictured above) intends to retire in two years. While he intends to retire on April 30, 2016, the actual date of his retirement will be finalized upon completion of the succession process.

Kimberly Mustin has joined BNY Mellon Investment Management as head of North American distribution. She was previously at OppenheimerFunds where she was head of global strategic accounts since 2010.

Sun Life Financial has appointed Joey Raheb as assistant vice-president, total benefits. He joined the company in 2010 as account executive and segment leader, association and affinity business, client solutions.

Jane Rooney has been appointed Canada’s first-ever financial literacy leader. Before being appointed to her new position, Rooney was the director of financial literacy and consumer education with the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada.

Jean Turmel has been appointed as the next chair of the board at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan effective Jan. 1, 2015. He replaces Eileen Mercier, whose term as chair expires at the end of the year.

Susan Wolburgh Jenah, the president and CEO of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC), intends to retire from her position at the end of October. She was appointed president and CEO of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada (IDA) in June 2007 and was responsible for leading the merger of the IDA and Market Regulation Services Inc. to establish the IIROC in 2008.
