Warehouse workers and transportation drivers employed by Martin Brower in Ontario have ratified a three-year collective agreement that includes pension and benefits gains.
The workers, who are members of Unifor Local 1285, reached an agreement that will see pension contributions increase by $100, up to $700 over the life of the agreement, and the employer match will be raised to $200 per month. Also, an improved Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology’s DBplus pension plan option will be provided to workers in year two of the agreement.
In addition, the years of service for vacation entitlement will be reduced, with five weeks of vacation now requiring 15 years of service instead of 20 and six weeks of vacation now requiring 20 years of service instead of 30. Workers will also see a 22 per cent wage increase over the life of the agreement.

In other news, more than 400 employees at the Art Gallery of Ontario have ratified a three-year collective agreement that includes benefits gains, following a month-long strike that closed the Toronto gallery.
The agreement includes five days of compassionate leave for when an employee’s immediate family member or member of their spouse’s immediate family is in palliative care or in need of end-of-life care. Employees will also see an increase in meal allowances from $10 to $15, as well as an 11.4 per cent wage increase for full-time and part-time workers.
