Prentice leaves CIBC

CIBC senior executive vice-president and vice-chairman Jim Prentice has formally left the bank after being elected leader of the Alberta Conservative Party and becoming the premier-designate.

He has been on a leave of absence from the bank since announcing his intent to run for public office.

“Over the past three years, Jim was instrumental in enhancing CIBC’s position in the energy and infrastructure business across Canada and internationally,” says CIBC president and CEO Gerry McCaughey.

Prentice joined the bank following a career as a lawyer, member of Parliament and one of the most senior ministers in the federal government. He served variously as the minister of industry, the minister of the environment and the minister of Aboriginal affairs and northern development.
