The 2015 winners of the annual Canada’s Top 100 Employers competition were announced on Tuesday.
“Each year, we see the baselines improve at the employers chosen for the Top 100,” says Richard Yerema, managing editor at Mediacorp Canada Inc., which manages the competition, now in its 15th year.
Organizations in both the public and private sector made the list. A number of financial services companies—including CIBC, Desjardins Group, Great-West Life and TD Bank Group—were considered top employers. Ivanhoé Cambridge, the real estate subsidiary of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, also made the list.
To develop this year’s list, Mediacorp examined the recruitment histories of more than 80,000 employers across Canada that it tracks for its job search engine, Eluta.ca. From this initial group, editors invited 35,000 active employers that created new jobs in the past year. Employers completed an extensive application process that included a detailed review of their operations and HR practices, comparing them to others in their industry and region.
Each organization is assessed against eight key criteria: physical workplace; work and social atmosphere; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
The list of winners is available on Mediacorp’s website.
