People Watch: On the move in November

Here’s a review of people on the move in November.

Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) has named Kevin Uebelein (left) as its new CEO, effective Jan. 5, 2015. He was previously president and CEO of Pyramis Global Advisors. Uebelein will succeed Leo de Bever, AIMCo’s first CEO.

The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan has promoted Tracy Abel to senior vice-president, member services. She replaces Rosemarie McClean, who was promoted to chief operations officer earlier this year. And Peter Simpson has been promoted to vice-president, valuation, risk analytics and model validation. He was most recently director, private and alternative investments.

National Bank has appointed Raymond Bachand and Karen Kinsley to its board of directors. Bachand most recently worked as a strategic advisor for Norton Rose Fulbright. Before that, he was a member of the Quebec National Assembly. And Kinsley served as president and CEO of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. from 2003 to 2013.

Denise Balch has been appointed the business development manager, plan benefits, at Johnson Inc. She was previously founder and president of Connex Health.

David Bannon has joined Hicks Morley as a partner in its Toronto office. He was previously a labour and employment law partner at Norton Rose Fulbright.

Christopher A. Brown will become the president and CEO of the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) Corp. on Jan. 5, 2015. He will replace Laurence Waring, LAPP’s vice-president of investments, who assumed the role of interim CEO in July 2013, after the departure of former CEO Meryl Whittaker.

Simon Campagnoli has joined Xerox HR Consulting as its new Quebec market leader and director of retirement services. He previously worked at Morneau Shepell.

Chip Castille and Anne Ackerley have new roles at BlackRock. Castille is chief retirement strategist, which is a global role and a newly created position. And Ackerley has replaced Castille as the head of BlackRock’s U.S. and Canadian DC business.

Whitney George has joined Sprott Inc. as a senior portfolio manager and is based in New York. He previously worked at Royce & Associates for 23 years. And both James Bowen and Jonathan Wiesblatt have joined Sprott Asset Management as portfolio managers. They were most recently portfolio managers at Toronto-based JC Clark Ltd.

Caledon Capital Management has hired Stephen Dowd as a partner. He has more than 25 years of experience and was most recently at Teachers’.

Paul Harrietha, principal and head of the communications and change management practice at Eckler, has been appointed chairman of Abelica Global, a worldwide network of independent actuarial consulting firms. He will continue in his role at Eckler.

Northleaf Capital Partners has appointed Edgar Haryanto as an associate on its infrastructure team. He was previously as an investment banking analyst in the infrastructure advisory group at Brookfield Financial.

Ben Homsy has joined Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel’s institutional fixed income team as a portfolio manager. He has more than a decade of investment experience in global capital markets.

David Krieger has moved to Morneau Shepell as a partner in the Ontario health and benefits consulting practice. He previously spent 26 years running Krieger + Associates.

Kris Kubin has joined GBL Solutions Inc. as vice-president, chief operating officer and employee benefits consultant. He has more than 25 years of experience in the employee benefits industry.

Mackenzie Financial has appointed Todd Mattina as chief economist and strategist, asset allocation team. He previously worked at the International Monetary Fund and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.
