Edwina Easton has been appointed as a director of Amaces and is responsible for business development and relationship management. She’s based in Chicago and will focus on Canadian and U.S. institutional investors and fund clients. Easton previously held senior positions at Mercer Sentinel, Northern Trust, JP Morgan Chase and Citibank.
Tahira Hassan has been appointed to the board of directors of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. Her appointment to the board is for a three-year term. Hassan is currently a non-executive director with both Brambles Ltd. and Recall Holdings Ltd.
Manulife has appointed Tom Jenkins to its board of directors. He’s the chairman of OpenText Corp. and also served as president and CEO of OpenText from 1994 to 2005. Jenkins is a member of the board of Thomson Reuters and of TransAlta. He’s also an executive fellow at the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary, a director of the C.D. Howe Institute, appointed member of the National Research Council of Canada and director of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives.
Joseph Lyn has joined Ontario Power Generation as director, real estate investments. He’s responsible for the real estate strategy for the pension and nuclear funds, and is the primary contact with external real estate investment managers. He joined OPG from Dorsay Development Corporation in Toronto where he was responsible for real estate asset management and acquisitions. Previously, he was a portfolio manager at OPTrust, where he worked for nine years.
Paul McCulley has stepped down from his role as PIMCO’s managing director and chief economist, which he assumed in May 2014. “Paul returned to PIMCO last May after being recruited by Bill Gross, with whom he had a close friendship and association for more than 20 years,” says Daniel Ivascyn, PIMCO’s group chief investment officer. “We understand and respect Paul’s decision to step down.”
Stephanie Ouwendijk has joined Franklin Templeton Investments, as a vice-president and portfolio manager, with its emerging markets debt opportunities team which sits within Franklin Templeton Fixed Income Group. She was previously with Ashmore Group, a London-based emerging markets asset management firm, where she served as fund manager since June 2010.
Maureen Premdas (above) has returned to Mercer’s health and benefits business in Toronto as a partner and senior consultant. She was previously director of benefits and wellness at Scotiabank. Premdas originally joined Mercer in 1998 and has expertise in the design, financial analysis, marketing, governance and administration of group benefits plans. She also worked in the insurance industry for nearly 10 years, including two years as the group pricing actuary at Canada Life.
Pacific Blue Cross has appointed Barry Rivelis to senior vice-president and chief information officer (CIO) effective May 4, 2015. He has more than 15 years of experience in executive leadership and more than 10 years of experience in the healthcare IT sector, in both public and private industries. Rivelis is leaving his role as CIO of the Provincial Health Services Authority in British Columbia.
The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan has promoted Stephen Solursh to vice-president and associate general counsel. He joined Teachers’ in 2010 and was most recently senior legal counsel, investments. Solursh is responsible for managing the investment counsel team.
Northern Trust announced has filled three key roles in Canada. Edwin Wong has joined the company as Northern Trust Canada’s chief financial officer. Prior to joining Northern Trust, he was the head of fund services operations for Citigroup Fund Services Canada. Wong also held senior leadership roles with Unisen Inc., AGF Management Limited and Ernst and Young. Clyde Roach has been named the new Northern Trust Canada chief compliance officer. He was previously with Manulife Asset Management where he served as managing director, investment compliance and business risk. In addition, Andrew Tan has been named to a new position as senior product consultant. Most recently, he served as regional head of Northern Trust’s investment risk and analytical services for the Asia-Pacific region, where he was responsible for building risk and analytical client solutions.
