Global Risk Institute chooses CEO

The Global Risk Institute in Financial Services (GRI) has named Richard Nesbitt as its new president and CEO, effective May 1, 2015.

His appointment follows Michel Maila’s decision to retire after three years’ service in the role.

Nesbitt was chief operating officer of CIBC until he retired from that position in September 2014.

He joined CIBC in 2008 following more than 20 years of experience in the securities industry.

GRI, which provides research and education programs, was founded in 2011 as a not-for-profit institute by the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario, along with TD Group and Manulife. It currently has 27 member institutions from the financial services sector across Canada.
