Institutional investors are less confident this month, according to State Street.

Its Investor Confidence Index fell by 7.6 points to 91.7 from March’s revised reading of 99.3.

“This month saw a pullback by North American investors, accompanied by more modest fluctuations in Asian and European confidence,” says State Street Associates director Paul O’Connell.

The confidence of European investors increased slightly while the Asian investors’ confidence decreased.

The index measures investor confidence on a quantitative basis, analyzing actual buying and selling patterns of institutional investors. The more of the portfolio that institutional investors are willing to devote to equities, the greater their confidence.
