Institutional investor confidence is up slightly in November, according to the State Street Investor Confidence Index.

The index rose by 0.3, to 83.2 from October’s revised reading of 82.9. On a regional basis, investor confidence was up in Asia, but down a bit in both North America and Europe.

“Moderating global growth expectations, Fed patience and a further easing of commodity prices have combined to leave investors with balanced perceptions of risk,” says Paul O’Connell, State Street Associates director. “With the CBOE Volatility Index declining to levels not seen since 1993, this has been supportive for equity prices.”

The index measures investor confidence on a quantitative basis, analyzing actual buying and selling patterns of institutional investors. The more of their portfolio that institutional investors are willing to devote to equities, the greater their confidence.
