Several members were either elected or re-elected to the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada’s board of directors last week.
Among the newly elected members is Jennifer Newman, senior managing director for real estate operations and special projects at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, who is set to become an independent director on the board.
Also joining as new independent directors are Malcolm Heins, retired chief executive officer of the Law Society of Ontario and former member of the Ontario Securities Commission’s investor advisory panel and Laura Tamblyn Watts, chief executive officer of CanAge.
“We are grateful for the service of our past directors, and we welcome Malcolm, Jennifer, and Laura,” said the IIROC’s president and CEO, Andrew Kriegler, in a press release. “The nominations further bolster IIROC’s commitment to meaningful and diverse representation on its Board — demonstrating their extensive, direct experience with seniors and/or vulnerable retail investors, consumers and pension plans.”
