Beginning June 30, Target Corp. will extend its backup care offerings to hourly and salaried employees at all U.S. stores and distribution centres.
The program will include 20 days of in-centre childcare or in-home child- and elder care. The enhancements are intended to pick up where traditional parental leave policies end so employees can support their families, according to a press release.
“Our team finds so much support here to grow their skills and careers, make a difference in their communities and take care of themselves and their families, including benefits we’re enhancing to be more relevant across a breadth of life stages,” said Melissa Kremer, chief human resources officer at Target.

“Retail workforces are unique in their mix of hourly and salaried positions, and one of our philosophies is to offer the same family-focused benefits to both hourly and salaried team members,” she added.
When having a new child, whether by birth, adoption, surrogacy or foster placement, employees will receive double the amount of paid time off to care for the newest family member, on top of the medical leave received after giving birth to a baby.
Target is also doubling the amount it will reimburse employees for adoption or surrogacy fees.
