Gary Nachshen remembered

Gary Nachshen, a partner at Stikeman Elliott, passed away suddenly last week while on vacation with his wife and two children in the Turks and Caicos.

His dedication to pension and benefits law made Gary a popular and respected voice on the topic amongst his peers in the legal community and with pension and benefits industry professionals.

Born in Montreal in 1959, Gary joined the Montreal office of Stikeman Elliott as a McGill University law student in 1986. He was made a partner in 1996, and moved to the Toronto office a year later to head the firm’s pensions and benefits group.

He was recognized in March 2011 as one of Canada’s top pension and benefits lawyers in a directory from UK publisher Chambers Global, and has also been recognized in publications such as The Best Lawyers in Canada, the Which Lawyer? Guide produced by the Practical Law Company and the Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Top 500 Lawyers in Canada.

He was also a frequent contributor to Benefits Canada, providing commentary and insight in articles and columns and as a member of our online expert panel where he provided valuable insight to industry professionals on pension and tax law.

The team at Benefits Canada extends its deepest sympathies to his wife, Julie Prentice, and children Thomas and Emma.
