The union representing roughly 60 employees at Kleenzone Ltd. in Toronto has ratified a four-year agreement that includes enhanced bereavement leave.
The agreement increases bereavement leave from one day to five for employees grieving the loss of a grandchild, mother in law or father in law. It also provides one day of bereavement leave for employees grieving a brother in law or sister in law, which weren’t included in the previous bereavement leave clause.

“This [agreement] strengthens the language for any worker who needs the time to grieve and self-care,” says Robin Dudley, national representative for Unifor.
Employees will also receive an average wage increase of 19 per cent — $2 per hour effective immediately, with a two per cent increase in years two and three and a three per cent increase in year four. There will also be a new $2 per hour premium for employees while performing specific tasks.
Members of Unifor Local 1701 undertook a 10-day strike in June after rejecting two previous offers.
