A new program for business owners, Accessibility @ Work, promises to help employers comply with new legislative standards and practices for accommodating disabled employees and clients.
The program, an initiative of the Family Services Employee Assistance Programs (FSEAP) and Accessibility Ontario, offers training and consultation services to help employers meet requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
Training services include in-person, webinar and e-learning options for accessibility training. Consultation services include policy development and analysis, compliance planning, implementation strategy and report preparation.
“The implementation of the AODA reflects an important and positive change within the workplace. Our aim is to aid organizations in meeting the unique needs of their employees,” said Samantha Wharton, director of marketing and business development with FSEAP.
FSEAP has also developed a series of webinar sessions to address employment standards, legal requirements and practical concerns under the Integrated Accessibility Standards (IAS). The IAS is a set of regulations under the AODA that outlines an employer’s obligation to provide workplace accessibility for its employees with disabilities.
