Recognized both in Canada and in the U.S., the annual holiday was established by the IFEBP in 2004 as an opportunity for plan sponsors to reaffirm their commitment to employee benefits and their role in employees’ well-being.
This year’s focus is on healthcare literacy: the ability to read, understand and act on medical information. The IFEBP offers a range of resources for Canadian and U.S. plan sponsors and employees, such as tip sheets and educational materials.
It also offers some suggestions on how to celebrate National Employee Benefits Day in the workplace, including hosting health fairs, lunch and learn sessions or guest speakers, creating posters or emails with healthcare tips, holding trivia contests or benefits satisfaction surveys for employees and launching new wellness initiatives. You can even say that you’ve been there and bought the t-shirt—clothing and other items to commemorate the holiday are available for purchase through the IFEBP.
