The union representing 60 employees at Maple Leaf Foods in Port Perry, Ont., has ratified a four-year collective agreement that includes pension and benefits gains.

Vision coverage will increase from $280 to $315 in the first year and coverage for paramedical services will increase from $380 to $410 in the first year and to $420 in the third year. Employees will also receive an additional two per cent vacation pay for more than 25 years of service.

Employees enrolled in the defined contribution pension plan will be vested immediately instead of after two years. There will also be a 12 per cent wage increase over the life of the agreement, including a five per cent increase retroactive to June 1, 2024.

In other news, the union representing 90 paramedics employed by the District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board has also ratified a three-year collective agreement that includes benefits gains, avoiding a possible strike.

The agreement includes an increase in psychological benefits from $1,500 to $2,000, and an increase in paramedical benefits from $1,000 to $1,200. Employees will also see wage increases of 3.25 per cent in the first year, followed by four per cent in the second and three per cent in the third.
