Taking a cue from Netflix, Virgin Group is now offering unlimited vacation days to employees at its head offices in the United Kingdom and the United States.
At Netflix, employees don’t need to ask for approval, and neither they nor their managers need to keep track of their vacation time.
Workers are allowed to take as much time off as they need as long as they feel comfortable that they and their team are up to date on projects and their absence won’t affect the business.
In a blog post, Virgin Group founder Richard Branson notes that Netflix’s Reference Guide on our Freedom and Responsibility Culture states: “We should focus on what people get done, not on how many hours or days worked. Just as we don’t have a nine-to-five policy, we don’t need a vacation policy.”
“Assuming it goes as well as expected, we will encourage all our subsidiaries to follow suit, which will be incredibly exciting to watch,” he writes.
