Several Canadian cities rank among the best global locations for work-life balance, according to a new report by Mercer.

The report ranked cities according to the practicalities of daily life for international talent and their families. It ranked Vancouver as the best city for work-life balance in North America and No. 7 globally. Four other Canadian cities landed in the top 25, including Toronto (No. 13), Ottawa and Montreal (tied for No. 20) and Calgary (No. 25).

Zurich was ranked No. 1 overall, followed by Vienna, Geneva, Copenhagen and Auckland rounding out the top five.

“Canada is often considered one of the top locations from a quality living perspective due in part to its political and economic stability and social and cultural environment, and several major Canadian cities are represented in the top quarter of our 2024 rankings,” said Vince Cordova, a partner in Mercer’s North American mobility advisory services, in a press release.

“The Canadian cities on the rankings each have their own unique culture and lifestyle, from Vancouver’s access to nature and recreation opportunities, Toronto’s incredible diversity, Ottawa’s proximity to Parliament, Montreal’s historic downtown and Calgary’s strong job market. Canada continues to be a leading destination for international assignees who can access the range of benefits the country and cities have to offer.”
