While your organization may have a flu pandemic plan, it probably doesn’t have a system in place for an obesity pandemic. Yet, with populations getting heavier, and an estimated 20% to 50% of the adult population living with a weight problem, this is an epidemic that cannot be ignored. As you’ll see inside this issue, obesity-related health issues are set to outpace those related to smoking in the next few years. Yet, there are a number of things that employers can (and are) doing to help employees lose weight and live long, healthy lives.

With that in mind, I’d like to take this opportunity to announce that Working Well’s fourth annual Who’s Who in Workplace Health Awards will be taking place this fall. The awards are designed to honour individuals and organizations that have demonstrated leadership and innovation in workplace health. Nominations close June 30th, so if you know of an individual or organization that fulfills one of the five categories, I urge you to visit benefitscanada.com/workingwell/wwiwh and nominate them.

As always, I want to hear from you. Please contact me at Kerry.Maddocks@rci.rogers.com.
