The Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec is investing $575 million in Montreal-based natural gas company Énergir.

The investment, which will be made in partnership with the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, is designed to fund a decarbonization and resilience strategy at Énergir and will fund renewable energy projects and renewable natural gas production plants, according to a press release.

“Alongside the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, we are determined to keep supporting this innovative company as it grows, diversifies and decarbonizes its activities to have a greener North American economy,” said Emmanuel Jaclot, executive vice-president and head of infrastructure at the Caisse, in the release.

In other news, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Blackstone Inc. have entered an agreement to acquire Asia-Pacific data centre operator AirTrunk, which holds assets in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.

The CPPIB will acquire a 12 per cent stake in the the Australia-based firm, which is valued at more than A$24 billion. The financial details of the transaction weren’t disclosed.

“We have built up strong sector expertise and are excited about the opportunities presented by data centres globally,” said Max Biagosch, senior managing director, global head of real assets and head of Europe at the CPPIB, in a press release.
