Reina Berlien, head of environmental, social and governance, Brandywine Global Investment Management

Reina BerlienReina Berlien is a member of Franklin Templeton subsidiary Brandywine Global Investment Management’s global fixed income team, where she oversees its environment, social and governance program, including the overall strategy, integration, stewardship and research across all investment teams. She leads the firm’s participation on several external initiatives, including the investor policy dialogues on deforestation as a co-chair and co-founder of the consumer country working group, as an advisory council member on the sovereign engagement with Australia on climate change and as a member of the United Nations’ Principles for Responsible Investment’s sovereign debt advisory council. She also sits on the steering committee for the Tropical Forest Alliance.

Berlien has been with Brandywine Global for 10 years. Prior to her current role, she worked closely with the investment teams to deliver portfolio- and thematic-driven thought leadership. Her experience spans various roles within financial services and the public sector, including at Penn Capital Management Co., ING Group and with U.S. Senator Thomas R. Carper. Berlien earned her bachelor of arts in English literature and a master of science degree in global affairs, both from Rutgers University, as well as a master of business administration degree from The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
