John Adams, chair, board of directors, Best Medicines Coalition

John Adams is the chair of the board of directors for the Best Medicines Coalition, a national alliance of patient organizations seeking timely and equitable access to a comprehensive range of medically necessary drugs and related treatments for all patients in Canada. Adams is father to an adult son with phenylketonuria, a rare genetic disorder, and is the president and chief executive officer of the Canadian Phenylketonuria and Allied Disorders, which he co-founded. In addition, Adams’ wife died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal degeneration. He’s a senior fellow of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute focused on health issues, co-chair of the Disability Tax Fairness Alliance and past board chair of the Canadian Organization of Rare Disorders. Adams is a seasoned management consultant and has worked as a Globe and Mail reporter, chief of staff to an Ontario cabinet minister and was elected to Toronto city council three times.
