Brian Minns, senior managing director, responsible investing, University Pension Plan
Brian Minns is the University Pension Plan’s senior managing director of responsible investing. Since 2021, he has been responsible for integrating responsible investing into UPP’s total portfolio approach and organizational practices. He oversees the UPP’s responsible investing strategy, ensuring commitments are met through effective investment processes and stewardship practices while also fostering open and transparent communication regarding the evolution of responsible investing initiatives.
Minns joined the UPP after nearly a decade at Addenda Capital Inc., culminating in his role as vice-president of sustainable investing. Prior to Addenda, he held roles in responsible investing with the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board and Mercer. A veteran in responsible investing, Minns is co-founder and past co-chair of the Canadian Responsible Investing Working Group, a member of the Responsible Investment Association’s policy stewardship group, a member of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance’s public policy committee and was formerly a member of the CFA Institute’s environmental, social and governance technical committee.
Minns holds a master’s in environmental studies from York University, the sustainable investment professional certification from Concordia University and a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Queen’s University.
