Jennifer Coulson, senior managing director and global head, ESG, British Columbia Investment Management Corp.

Jennifer Coulson is responsible for leading all environmental, social and governance strategies and programs at the British Columbia Investment Management Corp. This includes advancing the BCI’s ESG approach in line with the fast-changing landscape and its support for the global goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. With $250.4 billion of gross managed assets as of March 31, 2024, the BCI is the provider of investment management services for B. C.’s public sector and one of the largest asset managers in Canada.

Working in the financial services industry for more than 20 years, Coulson was most recently the senior managing director of ESG in public markets at the BCI. Since joining in 2012, she has built a world-class public markets ESG team focused on active ownership and led the BCI’s public markets efforts related to ESG integration, direct and collaborative engagement, policy advocacy and proxy voting.

Coulson holds a degree in environment and resource management from Western University and a master’s in environmental studies from York University. She has received the corporate director designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and chairs the 30% Club Canada Investor Group, as well as sitting on B. C.’s ESG advisory council, the investment advisory committee for the University of Victoria’s student investment fund and the board of the Sustainable Development Investments’ Asset Owner Platform. Coulson has been recognized as one of B. C.’s most influential women in finance by BC Business Magazine.
