CareerCast’s Jobs Rated 2015 report notes actuaries have a lot of income growth potential.
An actuary with a starting salary of US$57,000 could eventually earn US$176,000, which is a 209% increase. The current average salary is US$94,209.
The top 10 jobs are: actuary (No. 1), audiologist (No. 2), mathematician (No. 3), statistician (No. 4), biomedical engineer (No. 5), data scientist (No. 6), dental hygienist (No. 7), software engineer (No. 8), occupational therapist (No. 9) and computer systems analyst (No. 10).
The worst jobs of this year are: mail carrier (No. 191), firefighter (No. 192), taxi driver (No. 193), corrections officer (No. 194), photojournalist (No. 195), broadcaster (No. 196), cook (No. 197), enlisted military personnel (No. 198), lumberjack (No. 199) and newspaper reporter (No. 200).
To determine the ranking, the report used data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and other government agencies to rank 200 jobs based on income, work environment, physical demands, stress and the hiring outlook.
