While 44% of Alberta organizations expect their total number of employees to increase over the next six months, a Human Resources Institute of Alberta (HRIA) report says there are indications that Alberta’s hiring binge is over.
The Alberta HR Trends Report finds many Alberta companies are anticipating a pause in hiring along with a review of total compensation and organizations for savings to ensure the continued health of their organizations due to the drop in commodity prices.

“Some organizations have prepared better than others in the good years post-Great Recession and will find opportunities to grow their talent pool, upgrade their work teams, and broaden the products and services they provide to their clients and stakeholders,” the report states.
Despite decreased hiring confidence across all organizations, it’s not all doom and gloom, says HRIA CEO Chris McNelly, adding that Alberta employers are still looking to hire the right person for the right position.
