Caisse to buy stake in Cirque du Soleil

The Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec is part of a private equity group that plans to buy Cirque du Soleil.

Private equity firm TPG will own a majority stake, while the Caisse and China’s Fosun will both acquire a minority stake for an undisclosed amount. Reports say the deal is worth $1.5 billion.

Cirque du Soleil’s founder, Guy Laliberté, and Quebec businessman Mitch Garber, will also be part of the investor group.

“This is an important moment in the history of the Cirque,” says Caisse president and CEO Michael Sabia. “Today, we are partnering with the company as it seeks to conquer new markets.”
