The Lipper Fund Awards were handed out Tuesday night in Toronto to Canada’s top mutual funds.
The awards, part of the Thomson Reuters Awards for Excellence program, honour funds that have excelled in delivering consistently strong risk-adjusted performance, relative to peers, as well as fund families with high average scores for all funds within a particular asset class or overall. Awards are presented for funds in most individual classifications for three-, five-, and ten-year periods and fund families with high average scores over a three-year time period.
One of the big winners last night was TD, which had five mutual funds named as top performers: TD Entertainment & Communications Fund – Investor Series was a winner in the global equity category over three, five and ten-year periods; TD Science & Technology Fund – Investor Series was a three and ten-year winner in the sector equity category; TD NASDAQ Index Fund – Investor Series received the nod as top three-year performer for U.S. equity; TD U.S. Small-Cap Equity Fund – Investor Series was recognized for five-year performance in U.S. small/mid-cap equity ; and TD U.S. Mid-Cap Growth Fund – Investor Series was a ten-year winner in U.S. small/mid-cap equity.
“These awards reflect our commitment to delivering investment excellence across asset classes. They also speak to the strength of our talented team of portfolio managers and investment professionals, all of whom are dedicated to providing long-term value to our investors,” said Sandra Cimoroni, president, TD Mutual Funds.
BMO took home top honours for its BMO Guardian Asian Growth and Income Fund, recognized for three- and five-year performance in the Asia Pacific equity category, and BMO European Fund, which was named best performing fund over three years in the European equity class.
“We’re proud to have our mutual funds recognized once again at the Lipper Awards,” commented Kevin Gopaul, senior vice-president and chief investment officer, with BMO Asset Management Inc. “Our ability to help our clients meet their investment objectives, achieve enhanced return opportunities and effectively respond to volatile market conditions has been key to our mutual fund business’ ongoing success.”
