Canadian employers expect a modest hiring climate for the second quarter of 2014.
The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey reveals that 16% plan to increase their staffing levels, while 4% anticipate cutbacks. Of those surveyed, 78% of employers expect their current staffing levels to remain the same, and 2% are unsure of their hiring intentions for this upcoming quarter.
A modest hiring climate is projected for the second quarter of 2014, with new business growth at its weakest in five months, says Byrne Luft, vice-president of operations with Manpower Canada.
“There are some bright spots amidst the slow growth, with employers in the construction and transportation and public utilities industry sectors expecting the strongest gains,” he adds. “However, job growth is expected to be slower in Ontario and Quebec, with limited advances in full-time work expected for the coming quarter.”
More than 1,900 employers across the country took part in the survey.
