Green Shield Canada is launching a rating tool that allows plan members to search ratings when looking for a pharmacy.
Through the insurer’s app, members can access the rating tool to measure a pharmacy’s health outcomes. The five-star system bases its ratings on the promotion of good adherence to drug therapy, care for chronic disease and the safe dispensing of drugs to senior citizens.

“This initiative by the team at Green Shield Canada is a first effort to marshal the enormously valuable data sets possessed by the insurance industry to provide valuable insights to plan members and health providers on the state of care,” said Zahid Salman, president and chief executive officer of Green Shield Canada, in a press release. “While any feedback to health providers, including online plan member feedback, is a positive in the system, we believe our focus on generating and sharing true evidence of health outcomes is the most valuable contribution we can make to move the provision of quality health care forward.”
The search tool is the second phase of Green Shield Canada’s value-based pharmacy initiative. The first phase, which was launched in late 2017, provides pharmacies across Canada with scorecards each month rating performance in the areas of drug therapy adherence, chronic disease management and patient safety.
