Ian McSweeney named chair of Ontario pension regulator

The Ontario government has appointed Ian McSweeney as the chair of its pension regulator.

McSweeney, a retired partner and former head of the pension and employee benefits department at Osler Hoskin and Harcourt LLP, will serve as chair of both the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and the Financial Services Tribunal, the adjudicative body that holds hearings on decisions by the superintendent of financial services.

McSweeney, who previously served as acting vice-chair of FSCO and the tribunal, is a founding member of the executive of the Canadian Bar Association’s pension and benefits section.

In other news, Guardian Capital Group Ltd. has appointed Robin Lacey as head of institutional asset management.

With 30 years in the industry, Lacey was previously a managing director and head of global institutional asset management at Scotiabank. Other roles include vice-chair and managing director at TD Asset Management Inc.
