Jean-François Courville has left State Street to join MFC Global Investment Management as its president and chief operating officer.

He will be responsible for growing the firm‘s third-party institutional and sub-advisory investment management businesses in North America, Japan, Asia and the United Kingdom as well as expanding investment management services to Manulife’s own wealth management businesses globally.

“We are pleased to bring Mr. Courville’s knowledge and expertise to our team and have him head up these efforts,” says MFC’s vice chairman, Warren Thomson.

He joins Manulife from State Street Canada where he was president and CEO since 2005.

Previously, Courville held positions of increasing responsibility within State Street’s trading and research group, including managing director and principal officer of State Street Global Markets Canada and managing director and global head of client development of State Street Global Markets in Boston. He has also worked in the trading operations of the National Bank of Canada in Montreal and London, England.
