Erol Uzumeri has been named the new manager for the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan’s $8-billion private equity and venture capital portfolio. Joining Teachers’ in 2003, Uzumeri is currently responsible for international private equity investments and has been involved in a number of acquisitions at Teachers’, including Toshiba Ceramics and New Zealand Yellow Pages Group.
Mark Wiseman, senior vice-president of private investments at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, says many in the industry see Uzumeri as an “obvious choice” for the position. And, Wiseman says, the 38-year-old has a vast amount of international experience. In fact, Uzumeri himself admits he has the “air miles of a 65-year-old.”
Uzumeri will succeed Jim Leech, who becomes chief executive officer of Teachers’ on Dec. 1.
