OPTrust president and CEO to leave

Bill Hatanaka, president and CEO of OPSEU Pension Trust, has decided to leave the organization effective Sept. 30, 2014.

No reason was given for his departure.

He will work closely with the board of trustees over the next five months to help identify, select and transition to the organization’s next CEO.

“Bill Hatanaka has been an exemplary leader for OPTrust who successfully piloted the organization through a critical period of transformative change,” says board chair Scott Campbell. “He has established a strong foundation for OPTrust’s future, setting it on the right path to deliver long-term pension sustainability for our over 84,000 members.”

During his tenure, Hatanaka spearheaded the development of a new strategic plan for the organization with a renewed focus on long-term sustainability and the plan’s funded status; enhanced OPTrust’s capabilities in asset-liability management, risk management, information technology and external affairs; and led the organization to another year of successful results.

“I have been privileged to work alongside an exceptional team of men and women at OPTrust, and I have full confidence in their ability to continue to deliver excellence on behalf of the members we serve,” Hatanaka says. “I also want to express my thanks to the board for its support and partnership, and I look forward to working with them in the coming months to help select my successor.”
