A three-person panel chaired by Rob Brown will review the 25th Actuarial Report on the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), the office of the Chief Actuary announced Wednesday.
Brown, an experienced leader in the industry, also chairs the International Actuarial Association’s Social Security Committee, and has reviewed the CPP Actuarial Report in the past. He also a former president of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA).
International Actuarial Association member Doug Andrews and Society of Actuaries social security committee member Warren McGillivray will join Brown on the panel.
McGillivray is also a policy associate with the Caledon Institute of Social Policy and member of the National Academy of Social Insurance.
Each panel member has extensive experience in pension and social security, and all three are actuaries enrolled with the CIA. Together, they have written more than two hundred technical reports, research papers and books on pensions, health care and social security studying both Canadian and international issues
“The peer review can only enhance the transparency of the CPP report and ensure the most stringent standards and international best practices are applied,” said Jean Claude Menard, Canada’s Chief Actuary.
The report comes out every three years, and is a key resource for federal and provincial finance ministers as they review and make recommendations on the CPP. This is the fifth external peer review of the CPP report.
The United Kingdom Government’s Actuary Department (GAD) selected the panelists after a six-month search and review of potential candidates.
“This year all our panel reviewers are members of the well-renowned National Academy of Social Insurance, which not only speaks to the calibre of the panel, but also to the importance and quality of the actuarial work produced by our office,” Menard said.
The Actuarial Report is expected to be tabled by the end of 2010. The panel will then have three months to review it, and prepare a report.
