People Watch: On the move in October

Here’s a review of people on the move in October.

Fidelity Investments has named Abigail Johnson (left) as its new CEO. She succeeds her father, Edward C. Johnson III, who will remain chairman of the firm. Johnson will retain her role as president. She started working at Fidelity in 1988.

Sarah Butcher has joined the Toronto office of Neuberger Berman as vice-president, responsible for investment consultant relationships and institutional investors. She has previously worked at BlackRock, Mercer Investment Consulting, and Goldman Sachs.

Bonnie Chwartacki is the new president of People Corporation. She replaces John Gallivan, who will dedicate more time to his role of president of Gallivan & Associates Student Networks. And Brevan Canning has taken on the role of executive vice-president and group head, group benefit solutions, which is in addition to his responsibilities as vice-president, finance.

The Institute of Corporate Directors has appointed Gail Cook-Bennett as its board chair. She has served on many corporate, Crown and not-for-profit boards over the last 36 years. Cook-Bennett is the immediate past chair of the board of Manulife (2008 to 2013) and was the first chair of the board of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board from 1998 to 2008.

Patrick Fournell has joined Mawer Investment Management as an institutional portfolio manager. He previously worked at MFS, Mercer Investment Consulting, Hewitt Associates, and Noranda.

Manulife Asset Management has named Megan E. Greene as managing director and chief economist. She previously ran her own London-based economics consulting practice, Maverick Intelligence.

Franklin Templeton Investments has hired Sherry Lee Gregory as vice-president of consultant relations in Canada. She was previously with RBC Investor & Treasury Services.

Two vice-presidents from Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO) have moved to Canada. Greg Hiltz and Jason Zambanini have both transferred to the Toronto office from Newport Beach, Calif.

Sun Life Financial’s Isabelle Hudon and Robert Dumas have both taken on new roles. She has become executive chair, Sun Life Financial Quebec, a newly created role, and senior vice-president of client solutions. Hudon was previously president of Sun Life Financial Quebec, whose role Dumas has assumed. He was previously senior vice-president, group business, Quebec.

Pyramis Global Advisors has appointed Jeff Lagarce as president, effective Jan. 1, 2015. He will succeed Mike Jones, who announced his plans to leave the company at the end of the year. Lagarce joins Pyramis from Fidelity Worldwide Investment in London.

Jamie Marcellus is now president at First Health Care. He joined from Cira Medical Services and previously led First Health Care’s corporate services division.

The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan has promoted Rosemarie McClean to the newly created role of senior vice-president and chief operations officer. She was most recently senior vice-president, member services. McClean has been with the organization since 1986.

Manulife Asset Management Private Markets has named Michael J. McNamara as senior managing director and global head of real estate investments. He was previously with Brookfield Office Properties in New York.

CIBC Asset Management has added four new people to its team: Brent Reuter is vice-president, institutional business development; Trevor Bateman is vice-president, senior analyst, credit; Scott Vali is vice-president, portfolio manager, equities; and Sara Shahram is associate portfolio manager, equities.

Sanofi‘s board of directors has ousted Christopher A. Viehbacher as its CEO. Chairman Serge Weinberg will fill in as CEO on a temporary basis until a replacement is found.

Jones DesLauriers Blevins has appointed Christopher Westcott as senior benefits consultant. He has almost 30 years of group insurance and employee benefits experience and was most recently at Towers Watson.

Invesco Canada has appointed Vianne Xu to the role of assistant vice-president, client development, institutional investments. She previously worked for Letko Brosseau & Associates and has 10 years of industry experience.
