Speaker series to dispel myths of impact investing

Finally there is an asset class where philanthropy and desire for capital gains can cohabit without qualms or a clash. Known as impact investing, it is a growing phenomenon that requires the management of social and environmental performance alongside financial risks and returns.

This is an exciting time to be involved with impact  investing, says Geoffrey Moore, co-founder and CEO of TBC Capital Inc., a  Montreal-based financial services firm, and organizer of Eye4Impact, an  initiative to explore the emerging asset class of impact investments and social entrepreneurship.

Eye4Impact is a participatory speaker series designed  as a community initiative to explore the emerging asset class of impact investments and social entrepreneurship.

The series, which will feature leading impact investors and social entrepreneurs, kick starts on March 29 in Montreal with inaugural speaker Russell Read, chair and managing partner of C Change Investments and former CIO of the California Public Employees Retirement System  (CalPERS).

“Many still assume that any strategy with the word ‘social’ in it is not a good investment,” says Moore. “This lack of awareness  is largely responsible for keeping impact investing on a parallel track,  separated from the mainstream investment management industry. Developing  greater awareness of the opportunities across the industry is  key.”

The speaker series is meant to serve as a call to action and explore the emerging asset class of impact investments and social  entrepreneurship.
