Canadian employers expect the hiring climate to remain steady for the fourth quarter of 2011, according to Manpower’s Employment Outlook Survey. The most active hiring is expected to take place in the mining sector.
The survey of more than 1,900 employees says 13% of employers surveyed expect to hire in the quarter—a slight drop from the third quarter and down two percentage points from the same time last year.
The survey also shows 20% plan to increase payrolls in the quarter, while 8% anticipate cutbacks, 70% of employers expect to maintain current staffing levels and 2% are unsure of their intentions.
Among industries, the report says the most active hiring plans are in the mining sector, with 26% of employers expecting to hire.
Among regions, employers in Quebec anticipate the strongest hiring climates for the upcoming quarter, at 17%.
