Sun Life Financial Inc. has received top marks from Forrester Research Inc. for the digital functionality of its life insurance business.
The research and advisory firm evaluated the websites of seven of Canada’s life insurance companies. Sun Life received top scores in both digital functionality and user experience. It also achieved an overall score of 75 out of 100, compared to an industry average of 53.
In its report, Forrester evaluated 37 functionality and 33 usability criteria across three customer scenarios: finding a life insurance product, getting a life insurance quote and contacting an advisor. Sun Life achieved the top functionality score in every category.

Cynthia Stark, vice-president of global digital, brand and marketing at Sun Life, noted in a press release that the company has been aiming to transform its business through digital innovations, including:
- Sun Life GO: A suite of online life insurance products that Canadians can apply for in about 10 minutes.
- Ella: The company’s digital coach and persona helps people navigate and maximize their benefits and pension plans.
- SecureKey, which uses blockchain technology to make it easier for Canadians to verify their credentials.
- The mySunLife app: The company’s mobile insurance app, which allows people with group retirement services, benefits or individual health insurance to access their information.
