Hybrid working is losing ground in North America as 60 per cent of employees returned to the office or job site in 2024, up eight per cent from 2023, according to a new report by ADP Canada.
The report, which surveyed nearly 38,000 workers across 34 markets, found among Canadian respondents, the percentage of onsite workers dropped to roughly half (53 per cent), while 47 per cent continued to work remotely or in hybrid working arrangements. Notably, the percentage of in-office workers increased to 65 per cent among U.S. respondents.

More than a quarter (28 per cent) of North American workers said they have the flexibility to choose their work location, including 28 per cent of Canadian and 27 per cent of U.S. respondents.
Among global employees, a fifth (19 per cent) reported feeling fully engaged at work, up five per cent from 2020. Similar percentages of engagement were reported by North American (21 per cent) and Canadian (19 per cent) employees.
