There is speculation that the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (Teachers’) is looking for a buyer for it’s 66% stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), an asset that is valued at $1 billion.

The Financial Post reports that there is “absolutely no deal,” to sell a majority stake to Rogers Communications Inc., and that there is nothing concrete in terms of a sale that would include the National Hockey League’s Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Raptors NBA basketball team, Toronto FC soccer club and the Toronto Marlies, the Leafs minor league hockey team.

A Rogers statement indicated that it will not comment on “rumour or speculation,” but that “sports is an important part of Rogers and we’re always in discussions with companies to enhance the sports content we offer our customers.”

A representative from Teachers made similar remarks stating, “It’s our policy to neither confirm nor deny such stories.
