American adults with a full-time job work an average of 47 hours per week, according to a Gallup survey.
Half of all full-time workers work more than 40 hours a week, with almost four in 10 working at least 50 hours and 18% working 60 hours or more.
Forty-two percent say they work 40 hours a week, and just 8% of full-time employees work less than 40 hours a week.
Some full-time workers have taken on a second job, which has pushed up the average hours worked per week slightly.
However, Gallup notes that, even with restricting the analysis to full-time workers with just one job, the average number of hours worked is 46.
