The Caisse invests in weight loss company

The weight-loss industry is big business, with the overall industry in Canada and the U.S. estimated to be worth US$44 billion. Seeing the opportunity, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec has made a $12.9-million investment in Bariatrix Nutrition Inc. (BNI), a nutrition and weight management food products company rooted in Quebec with facilities in Vermont.

“Bariatrix Nutrition Inc. has carved out an enviable position in its industry, particularly through the vision of its management team and its great ability to innovate,” said Normand Provost, executive vice-president, private equity, with the Caisse. “Today, the Caisse is acting on an opportunity to contribute to BNI’s growth, and the company’s success will benefit Caisse depositors.”
