The Toronto Transit Commission’s workers could walk off the job Monday morning unless the city offers them a better pension and benefits package.

“It’s time to stop treating TTC workers worse than City of Toronto workers when it comes to job injuries, benefits and pensions,” says Bob Kinnear, president of the Toronto Transit Workers union “We can no longer accept second-class status as public sector workers in Toronto.”

He adds that bus drivers in Mississauga and Brampton—two cities surrounding Toronto—have better wages and benefits than those that work for the TTC.

If there isn’t an acceptable offer presented by Sunday afternoon, the union will notify its members not to show up for their scheduled shifts.

The TTC will not comment on the threat of job action at this time as its focus remains on reaching a fair, negotiated settlement.
