The Court of Queen’s Bench has approved the implementation plan agreement between Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS), its unions and retiree representatives.
Current and retired members of the MTS plan are entitled to receive a portion of the surplus distribution arising from the settlement of a pension lawsuit.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court of Canada upheld a lower court ruling that the pension surplus that existed when MTS was privatized in 1997 belongs to the workers and retirees and must be repaid.
“We are pleased that this matter is now behind us, and we are moving forward with the full support of our unions and retiree representatives,” says MTS CEO Pierre Blouin.
